Syfy has picked up to series Deadly Class, based on the critically acclaimed Image Comics graphic novel by Rick Remender and Wes Craig, from The Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Sony Pictures TV and Universal Cable Productions.

Adapted for television by Remender and Miles Orion Feldsott, Deadly Class is described as a coming of age journey full of ancient mystery and teen angst. Set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late 80s counter culture, it follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital.

Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Luke Tennie, Liam James and Michel Duval star.

Remender and Feldsott executive produce with Joe Russo, Anthony Russo and Mike Larocca (Spy). Adam Targum (Banshee) from Chipmunk Hill also served as executive producer on the pilot, along with Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline), who also directed.

“We’re committed to developing graphic novels for SYFY and have found a rich, compelling, truly unique world in Deadly Class,” said Bill McGoldrick, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Our producing partners expertly combined high school angst, 80s nostalgia and comic flair into a beautifully realized, visually arresting pilot that truly brings Rick and Wes’ acclaimed comic series to life.”

The Deadly Class pickup follows the recently announced series order for space thriller Nightflyers, based on author George R.R. Martin’s novella, and the successful recent series launches of Krypton, which premiered to more than 2.6 million viewers, and Happy!, the twisted adaptation of Grant Morrison’s graphic novel, starring Christopher Meloni and Patton Oswalt.

There is no decision yet on Syfy’s other two pilots, Tremors and Run For Your Life.
