HBO has given a pilot green light to Run, a romantic comedic thriller from Fleabag and Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge and her frequent collaborator Vicky Jones, with Waller-Bridge set for a recurring role. The project hails from Entertainment One, Jones and Waller-Bridge’s DryWrite and Wigwam Films.
Written by Jones, Run is about about ex-lovers who made a pact 15 years ago that if they ever needed to escape life, they could send each other a simple text message – “RUN” – and impulsively disappear together. Run is their story.
Waller-Bridge will recur as Flick in the project, which was a hot package, landing at HBO with a pilot order.
Entertainment One produces for HBO, with Jones and Waller-Bridge set to executive produce via DryWrite, and Emily Leo for Wigwam Films.
This marks the second greenlighted project at HBO for eOne, joining the upcoming series Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams. It also marks one of the first production orders for the company since Mark Gordon became President and Chief Content Officer.
Waller-Bridge is the creator and star of UK series Fleabag, based on her acclaimed one-woman show — and Crashing. Fleabag, which streams on Amazon in the U.S., has been renewed for a second season to premiere in 2019. Waller-Bridge also is the creator, writer and showrunner of the BBC America series Killing Eve, starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, which just received an early second season renewal. Waller-Bridge’s acting credits include an upcoming role in Solo: A Star Wars Story, as well as roles in Broadchurch, The Cafe and The Iron Lady.
Jones, currently London’s National Theatre’s Playwright in Residence, directed the original stage production as well as the revival of Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag as well as the play Mydidae and penned the plays Touch and The One. She has worked with Waller-Bridge on the television series Fleabag, Crashing and Killing Eve.
Jones is repped by UTA in the U.S. and United Agents in the UK. Waller-Bridge is repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham in the U.S. and Independent Talent Group and Hatton McEwan Penford in the UK.
