Cinemark has renewed its 3D global agreement with RealD through December 2022. The announcement was made jointly today by Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi and RealD President of WW Cinema and COO, Travis Reid.
Cinemark was an early champion of the 3D format and one of RealD’s first major customers when the company launched in 2005. Currently, there are more than 3,000 RealD projection systems installed in the Cinemark circuit. During the term of the pact’s extension, Cinemark will be installing RealD 3D systems in all new-build theatres.
3D continues to rally in burgeoning foreign theatrical markets like Russia and China where it drives tickets sales. Recently, 57% of the global $522M box office for Warner Bros./Village Roadshow’s Ready Player One came from the 3D format with RealD responsible for $80M of all ticket sales.
