President Donald Trump wished everyone a Happy Easter on Twitter – then dove into some more controversial topics this morning.
The biggest tweet of the morning was the message that there would be no deal on the DACA issue (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), the undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children. “NO MORE DACA DEAL!” tweeted the president at the conclusion of a post claiming the US border with Mexico was “getting more dangerous” and that Border Patrol agents had their hands tied because of “liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release.”
Trump also referenced reports that a “caravan” of people were heading toward the US border without interference from Mexican authorities, and indicated that Republicans must go to the “Nuclear Option” to pass tougher immigration laws. That’s a reference to a parliamentary procedure in which Senate Republicans can pass legislation with a simple majority of 51 votes instead of the 60-vote majority usually needed to bring a vote to the floor.
Mexican authorities were also taken to task, and Trump tweeted that the North American Free Trade Agreement should “stop” if Mexico does not “stop the big drug and people flows.”
Finally, the president tweeted, “These big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of DACA. They want in on the act!”
Trump is on vacation in Palm Beach at his private Mar-a-Lago. He is expected to attend church services later.
