CBS paid a price for its Meghan Markle special on Friday. The network was the night’s most watched, but lost its chance to win the night in the key 18-49 demographic when it preempted Blue Bloods for the Markle special at 10 PM.
Compared to previous week’s Blue Bloods in the hour, Gayle King-hosted Meghan Markle: American Princess (0.6, 5.18M) dropped 25% in the 18-49 year age bracket, and by 3.1 million total viewers.
Meanwhile, two hours of MasterChef Junior (0.8, 3.12M) won the night in 18-49 for Fox.
CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 (0.9, 7.37M) at 9 PM, captured the night’s top spot in both metrics among Big 4 broadcasts.
Network’s MacGyver (0.8, 6.31M) dominated 8 PM, besting the first hour of Fox’s MasterChef franchise, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, CW’s Dynasty (0.2, 670K) and NBC’s Blindspot (0.5, 2.85M), which was back with its first broadcast in three weeks to finish 1/10th of most recent broadcast and 97% of its overall audience.
Hawaii Five-O topped 9 PM in both measurements, edging past hour two of MasterChef Junior, the first hour of NBC’s 9-11 PM Dateline (0.7, 3.95M), ABC’s Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (0.4, 1.66M), and the season finale of CW’s Jane the Virgin (0.2, 640K), which held previous week’s stats.
CBS’s 10 PM Markle-doc topped 10 PM in total viewers, but second hour of Dateline took the demo, also besting ABC’s 20/20 (0.4, 2.32M).
Fox (0.8, 3.12M) took the night in the demo and CBS (0.7, 6.28M) in total viewers. NBC (0.6, 3.58M) tallied third place in the demo, followed by ABC (0.4, 2.05M), then CW (0.2, 655K).
