WWE stars John Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are tag-teaming outside of the ring in Universal Pictures’ action thriller, The Janson Directive, in which Cena has signed to star and Johnson will serve as an executive producer. Johnson, who originally was attached to star in the film, made the announcement via social media.
Found my star! Congrats to my good bud John Cena on landing the lead role for our movie, THE JANSON DIRECTIVE. A project that myself, @sevenbucksprod, our production partners and Universal Studios have been developing for years now. Congrats man and I’m excited to go on this journey with you. Thank you for your commitment to the role and remember, as your producer if you screw up, I’m coming to set and droppin’ the People’s Elbow on ya. And you know first hand how devastating my elbow drops can be 😉💪🏾 Congrats my friend and let’s go make a good one. #JansonDirective #JohnCena #SevenBucksProds #CaptivateEnt #WeedRoadPics #MythologyEnt #UNIVERSAL
Written by Jason Bourne author Robert Ludlum, The Janson Directive novel focused on Paul Janson, an ex-Navy SEAL and former member of a covert government agency Consular Operations who becomes a corporate security consultant and takes a job rescuing an important man. When the mission goes awry, Janson is targeted for a “beyond salvage” termination order and has no choice but to follow the clues that lead him to a massive scandal.
Producers are Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner from Captivate Entertainment, Seven Bucks’ Hiram Garcia, James Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer, and William Sherak of Mythology, and Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road Pictures. Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks and Mythology’s Tracey Nyberg of Mythology are exec producers as well.
Cena, who most recerntly was seen in Universal’s comedy Blockers, voiced the title bull in Ferdinand and stars in the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, is repped by ICM.
