Under the pact, Powell and his Irony Point partner, producer Alexandra Bach, will develop and produce animated projects for Comedy Central, working with up-and-coming and established talent that have caught the attention of the network. Devin Clark, creator/executive producer of Comedy Central’s cult 2010 animated series Ugly Americans, will be the dedicated Irony Point executive on the collaboration, reporting directly to Powell.
Powell previously worked with Clark on Ugly Americans, on which Powell served as writer/executive producer. During an executive stint at Comedy Central as director of East Coast development, he was executive in charge of production on the first season of Important Things with Demetri Martin, as well as The Colbert Report. Prior to joining Comedy Central’s development team, Powell was an associate producer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, a contributing writer to Robert Smigel’s “TV Funhouse” segments on Saturday Night Live and a house performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. He’s currently an executive producer on The Break with Michelle Wolf for Netflix. Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer, which Powell co-created and executive produces with star Schumer, is currently on an indefinite hiatus. It earned the duo best variety sketch series Emmy Award in 2015.
Powell co-directed the feature film Becks, which won Best U.S. Fiction Film at the L.A. Film Festival. Powell produced that film with Bach, Irony Point’s Head of Production. She comes predominantly from the world of independent film and also produced indies Rosie and On the Seventh Day.
As a freelance designer and animator, Clark has been involved in a broad range of projects including work for HBO, MTV, Comedy Central, TCM, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network.
