EXCLUSIVE: Iko Uwais, the actor and fight choreographer who toplined The Raid and The Raid: Redemption, has joined the cast of Stuber, the 20th Century Fox pic that stars Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani.
Fox acquired the Tripper Clancy-penned spec in April 2016. It’s about a determined detective (Bautista) who commandeers an unsuspecting Uber and its driver (Nanjiani) over one night of high jinks and mayhem. Details of Uwais’ character are under wraps. Michael Dowse is directing the pic, which Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are producing. Jake Wagner is executive producer, and Jeremy Kramer is overseeing for the studio.
Uwais recently wrapped filming STXfilms’ Mile 22 starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and choreographing some of the major fight scenes, just as he did for 2011’s actioner The Raid and its 2013 sequel, which served as his breakout films. He also appeared in and provided fight choreography for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, among other pics.
He is repped by Gersh, Management 360, Ricky Siahaan of Indonesia-based Uwais Management and attorney Karl Austen.
