“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and dick clark productions value our 25-year relationship with NBC and will continue to have discussions with them about extending our television deal. However, as the exclusive negotiation period with NBC has ended, we are evaluating offers from other interested parties,” the companies said in a statement to Deadline.
NBC had been in negotiations with the HFPA and Dick Clark Productions on a new multiyear Golden Globes deal. The most recent contract for the awards show expired with the 2018 telecast on January 7.

The news is somewhat surprising as NBC, which most recently had been reportedly paying a license fee just north of $20 million a year for the Globes, had been the show’s TV home since 1993 and had been expected to step up to keep it. The network had first crack at hammering out a new deal, with HFPA and DCP able to approach other interested parties only of they were unable to agree on terms with NBC during their exclusive window.
NBC declined comment but sources stressed that the network still hopes to reach a deal and retain the Golden Globes on NBC.
The 75th Golden Globes drew 19 million viewers and a 5.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic (Live+Same Day) in January. That was down slightly from the 2017 show to a six-year demo low, but still ranked as the most watched awards show since the Oscars.
With advertisers putting a premium on live entertainment programming that draws large audiences, the Globes is a very lucrative franchise. CBS had been among the networks that had expressed interest in pursuing the rights if available, as revealed during the 2012 trial between the HFPA and DCP over the awards show. The two parties have since reconciled and have been working together to secure a new broadcast contract for the Globes.
DCP recently moved another established awards franchise it produces, The Billboard Music Awards, from ABC to NBC.
