Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk and Sony’s fast-paced Baby Driver won honors tonight at the fifth annual Location Managers Guild International Awards. In addition, both HBO’s long-running Game of Thrones and Netflix’s critically acclaimed Ozark took home awards for television.
Dunkirk was filmed at the French location of the real evacuation as well as in Malo-les-Bains, while Baby Driver and television location winner Ozark were shot in Atlanta. Game of Thrones was filmed in a number of locations including Northern Ireland, Croatia, Morocco, Malta and other spots.
The LMGI Awards spotlight international features, television, and commercials in which the creative use of filming locations set the tone, enrich the character, and enhance the narrative.
The black-tie awards ceremony and reception took place at the Alex Theatre in Glendale before an audience of about 500. Comedian Jonah Ray served as the evening’s host. Producers of this year’s LMGI Awards are co-chairpersons LMGI President Eric Klosterman and Robin Citrin.
In addition, writer/producer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar, Terminator Genisys) presented the Lifetime
Achievement Award to Canadian location manager Rino Pace LMGI (Inception, Deadpool, Unforgiven). The 2018 Trailblazer Award to NY location manager Josh Karan LMGI and Founder of The Association of Location Scouts and Managers’ which was formed in 1982 in New York.
