Once again President Donald Trump will get out of town on the night of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, to be billed and cooed over by thousands of rally fans. This time, Trump is holding his WHCD counter-programming clambake in Washington – Michigan, that is.

That’s so the White House could snark:

While the fake news media will be celebrating themselves with the denizens of Washington society in the swamp that evening, President Trump will be in a completely different Washington celebrating…with patriotic Americans.

One year ago, Trump similarly stayed away from Washington on the night of the annual journalists’ dinner, holding a rally in Harrisburg, PA. Back then, however, the White House insisted the timing was entirely coincidental and Trump was celebrating his administration’s 100th day.

Even so, Trump had opened that rally taking cheap shots at the Washington, D.C. orgy of excess held annually in the Hinckley Hilton.

“A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation’s capital right now…They are trapped at the dinner, which will be very, very boring,” Trump boasted last year as the WHCD was kicking off.

“They are gathered together for the White House Correspondents Dinner without the president,” Trump gloated, drawing applause. Trump spent the first 10 minutes of his speech slamming WHCD participators, including the “totally failing” New York Times and the “fake news” of CNN and MSNBC.
