CBS earned a pretty typical Friday win – its 23rd of the season in total viewers and 21st in the demo – with its slate of nostalgia dramas that drove Blue Bloods (0.8 demo rating, 8.00 million viewers) to the top spot for the night.
At 8 PM, the network’s Macgyver (0.7, 6.26M) was first in both metrics, topping the time slot’s closest competitor in overall audience by 119%. The demo was a season low for the series, though that’s no surprise given the time of year and early prime time slot.
At 9 PM, CBS’s Hawaii Five-O (0.9, 7.65M) won both metrics. Meanwhile, CW’s Life Sentence (0.1, 495K) matched its last two telecasts, Wednesdays at 9 on March 28 and April 4, demo-wise. The 495K is an improvement over the last three of its five Wednesday telecasts, though it represents just 63% retention of its Dynasty (0.2, 781K) lead-in.
NBC’s 9-11 PM Dateline (0.7, 4.1) matched its best demo rating since January 12 and was the top newsmag of the night in both metrics, besting ABC’s 10 PM 20/20 (0.4, 2.21M). ABC’s newsmag was its best performer Friday in total viewers, but no match for its 8 PM drama, Once Upon a Time (0.5, 2.01M) in the demo, leading into Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (0.4, 1.63M).
At 10 PM, Blue Bloods returned for its 175th episode, winning its hour in both metrics, including 78% advantage over closest slot competitor in total viewers.
For the night, CBS (0.8, 7.31M) was first in viewers for the 23rd time this season, and in demo for the 21st time. NBC (0.6, 3.70M) and Fox’s 8-11 PM NFL Draft (0.6, 2.04M) tied for No. 2 in the demo, with NBC taking silver in overall audience. ABC (0.4, 1.95M) followed, then CW (0.1, 638K).
