EXCLUSIVE: Famed surfer Bethany Hamilton is getting the documentary treatment, with commercials and surf-film helmer Aaron Lieber making his feature debut on Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable, which has its world premiere Friday at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Hamilton of course was the subject of the 2011 movie Soul Surfer, which chronicled her life after losing her arm at age 13 when she was a attacked by a 15-foot tiger shark (AnnaSophia Robb played her). Incredibly, Hamilton returned to competitive surfing the next year.
Lieber turns his camera on Hamilton as she continues to break boundaries and conquer her fear, showcasing a coming-of-age tale steeped in bravery, hope, perseverance and sheer athleticism.
The pic bows at 7 PM ET at the Tribeca Festival Hub. Submarine is handling sales.
