Set to a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” by series composer Ramin Djawadi, the trailer expands on the potentially ominous things to come in the second season as seen in previous teasers. It shows the evolving struggle of the Westworld hosts to gain their independence. We see Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) further evolving into a true robot revolutionaary, and scenes of Maeve (Thandie Newton) wandering through Samurai World. Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) opens the clip, telling Dolores “I dreamt I was on an ocean…you and the others on a distant shore.” to which Delores asks “Were you with us?” and Bernard replies “No.” Cue the somber piano music. There’s also plenty of violence, which William/Man in Black (Ed Harris) as usual, appears to truly enjoy.
Created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, based on Michael Crichton’s novel and subsequent 1973 movie (which was directed by Chrichton), the sci-fi thriller is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.
Season 2 premieres Sunday, April 22 at 9 PM on HBO. Check out the trailer above.
