NBC Universal has become the latest Hollywood studio to publish positive gender pay statistics out of the UK. The company pays men 3.2% more on a mean basis and 6.2% on a median basis.
However, when it comes to the gender pay gap in terms of bonuses, it found that women make 5.5% more on a mean basis and 23% on a median basis.

This was well above the national average, which is a mean gap of 17.4% and a median gap of 18.4% and better than a number of other UK television businesses, including Channel 4, which had a mean gender pay gap of 28.6%, ITV, which had a gap of 16.4% and All3Media, which has a mean gap of 13.5%.
However, it couldn’t compete with Viacom-owned broadcaster Channel 5, which pays women 2.85% more than men on a mean basis or Endemol Shine UK, which found it had no gender pay gap.
All companies with over 250 employees in the UK are forced to report their gender pay statistics by April 4 and this applies to NBC Universal International, which covers its UK-based corporate, operations and technology functions. The division is not thought to include staff that work across its production companies including Downton Abbey indie Carnival Films or entertainment producer Monkey.
As part its report, NBC Universal noted, “We champion an inclusive culture and strive to attract and develop a diverse, talented workforce to create and deliver a spectrum of content reflecting the current and changing face of the world.”
