
Maya Erskine (Hulu’s Casual, FXX’s Man Seeking Woman) has come onboard Amy Poehler’s directorial debut film Wine Country, the Netflix comedy which Poehler will produce and star in. Previously announced cast includes comedians Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Maya Rudolph, Emily Spivey with an appearance from Tina Fey. Former Saturday Night Live! writers Spivey and Liz Cackowski penned the screenplay, which tells the story of old friends who go to Napa for a weekend getaway to celebrate a 50th birthday. Erskine will play Jade, a younger Millennial Lesbian, who catches the eye of Val (Pell). Poehler is producing via Paper Kite Productions alongside Carla Hacken of Paper Pictures and Morgan Sackett from Dunshire Productions. Erskine recently wrapped the indie Plus One opposite Jack Quaid and will next be seen in the Netflix film 6 Balloons, available April 6. She’s repped by Gersh, Mosaic, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.

Actress and host Alexys Gabrielle (The Oh My Disney Show) will star in Sparrowhawk Picture’s indie film Dark Cloud, along with UK actress Emily Atack. Jay Ness will direct the film which centers on a woman who, following a horrific accident, voluntarily becomes a test subject to an artificial intelligence designed to rehabilitate her. In a world dependent on machines, she learns not all technological advancement has humanity’s best interest in mind. Gabrielle will play Chloe, a young woman who accepts an invitation to house-sit a wealthy relatives estate. To her own surprise, Chloe begins to bond with the homes integrated artificial intelligence, Aida. John. J Kaiser wrote the script, which will go before cameras in August. Gabrielle is repped by UTA, Scale Management, and Bloom, Hergott, Diemer.
