Crypt TV, the digital genre network founded by CEO Jack Davis and Eli Roth has raised $6.2M in a Series A round from past investors Blumhouse Productions, Lerer Hippeau, NBCUniversal and Advancit Capital.
The company will use the funds to continue to serialize monster-oriented content, including new seasons of popular shows Sunny Family Cult and The Look-See. Since launching a bit less than three years ago, the company now releases videos with an average of more than 100 million views per month across its Facebook Show Pages, which have more than 7.5 million total fans. Crypt TV’s YouTube channel has racked up north of 575,000 subscribers since Crypt began posting there in August.
The new capital will also go toward development of long-form content partnerships with studios and networks, such as the 2017 title Ghosted, which aired on Verizon’s go90 platform. Crypt has also experimented with new forms of storytelling on social media including its “social fiction” character Giggles the Clown. Giggles has 375,000-plus followers on her Facebook show page and posts to social media and interacts with fans as if she were real. Giggles made the Halloween rounds and nabbed a spot on the Today show and drove merchandise sales at Spencer’s retail stores.
“Crypt is laser focused on creating iconic monsters like Freddy Krueger that can last for generations,” Davis said. “This new round of financing allows us to move freely in responding to fan demand to make more and longer episodes and seasons around monsters our fans love like Sunny Family Cult and The Look-See. Blumhouse, Lerer Hippeau, Advancit Capital & NBCUniversal have been fantastic partners and I feel fortunate to have investors who believe so deeply in Crypt’s vision of using mobile and social to create iconic IP for millennials and gen Z.”
