EXCLUSIVE: Awesomeness Films has brought together Riverdale star Camila Mendes, Austin & Ally alum Laura Marano, Noah Centineo (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser), and Odiseas Georgiadis to topline The Stand-In, a film directed by Chris Nelson. Veep‘s Matt Walsh has also signed on to star in the pic, which is currently in production in New Orleans.
The logline: In a clever scheme to raise money for college, Brooks Rattigan (Centineo) creates a dating app wherein he plays the roll of “stand-in” boyfriend for every kind of situation you can imagine. Through the journey of being a different person every night of the week, he finds out that the real Brooks isn’t who he thought at all and to his surprise falls for the real girl of his dreams.
Marano, most recently seen in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, will play Celia Lieberman, the daughter of wealth and privilege with a fierce urge to be herself at all costs. Mendes is Shelby Pace, a beautiful, fashionable, private school student who is bored by her wealthy male suitors.
Walsh, a two time Emmy nominee, will play Brooks’ father Charlie Rattigan, a prize-winning novelist who let fame derail his life, while Georgiadis has been cast as Murph, Brooks’ best friend who helps him create the dating app.
Ace Entertainment is producing the project with Awesomeness. Exec Producers are Matthew Signer of Awesomeness and Matt Kaplan from Ace Productions.
