One day after the 2018 Major League Baseball season began comes word of a TV series in development at Amazon based on the 1992 film A League of Their Own. Deadline has confirmed that Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) and Broad City co-creat0r/star Abbi Jacobson will write and executive produce the comedy from Sony Pictures TV about the World War II-era, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The principals are in negotiations, but no deals are in place.
It’s described as a new take on the story told in the popular film starring Tom Hanks as the reluctant manager of the Rockford Peaches, whose skirt-clad players included Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell and Lori Petty. The Penny Marshall-directed pic, which also featured Jon Lovitz, Bill Pullman and David Strathairn, grossed $107 million domestically and was the No. 10 film of 1992.
THR first reported the news.
