EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is getting into the property business after commissioning its first home makeover series, Amazing On The Inside (w/t) from British production company Barcroft Productions.
I hear that the SVOD service has ordered a 12-part series, with episodes lasting 30 minutes. The show will uncover homes that hide an incredible secret and will look behind the ordinary, conventional or unassuming exteriors that are passion projects for their owners, who have transformed their living space to reflect their passions, dreams and identity.
The digital platform has found success with a raft of acquired property series such as Grand Designs, Reno My Reno, Brojects and Escape To The Country, but Amazing On The Inside is its first original in the genre.
It is Barcroft Productions’ first commission from Netflix; the company, which is run by Sam Barcorft has produced series such as Channel 4 documentary Inside The Klu Klux Klan, History’s Forged In Britain and BBC doc Secrets of the Dinosaur Crater as well as producing a raft of digital and short-form content. Channel 4 acquired a minority stake in the business in 2016 through its Indie Growth Fund. Sam Barcroft, Peter Wyles and Jude Parker exec produce the series, which was shot in the UK, Nigeria, U.S., Spain and the Netherlands.
It is also the latest non-scripted order for a British production company and comes as Sony Pictures Television-backed producer Stellify Media is making Jackass-meets-Wipeout-style gameshow Flinch for the service, along with Jane Root’s Nutopia producing six-part history series The Last Czars and Tiger Aspect produced Jack Whitehall’s travelogue Travels with my Father.
