With two weeks left before the return of Fox’s The X-Files, Chris Carter and his cast are dropping some serious hints in this “super-tease” trailer for the 10-episode second installment of the series return.
With interview snippets of Carter, co-stars Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi, the trailer sets up the series return as “more quintessential X-Files,” in the words of Anderson.
That means Duchovny in a Sasquatch costume, new details about the Cigarette-Smoking Man and his mysterious son, and more of what Duchovny calls the “deep state feel” of the classic series.
There are also hints about the whereabouts (or lack thereof) of the child of Mulder and Scully. “I have to find our son,” Scully tells Mulder. “You need him and I need you.”
Some things won’t change too drastically, though. Scully is still the skeptic, Mulder the believer. And, as Mulder tells her, Scully still has some scoot in her boot, whatever that means.
The series originally premiered in September 1993, and over the course of a nine-season run earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award.
Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, The X-Files is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter. The event series returns to Fox Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 8/7c pm.
