TBS, which has been enjoying a solid run with a string of well received series, has promoted the two key programming executives under EVP Programming Brett Weitz. Thom Hinkle has been upped to EVP Original Programming and Jeniffer Kim to SVP. Both will continue to report to Weitz.
Since new TNT & TBS boss Kevin Reilly in early 2015 launched a TBS rebrand with Weitz named head of programming for the comedy-focused network, Weitz, Hinkle and Kim are credited with the development and launch of seven consecutive successful scripted original series — The Guest Book, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Wrecked, Full Frontal, The Detour, American Dad (previously a Fox original) and Search Party .
“Thom and Jen have had a tremendous impact on TBS’ success, and I couldn’t imagine better partners, or a better team, in this business,” Weitz said in a statement. “Thom’s passion and instincts are second to none, and Jeniffer’s creativity and dedication continue to drive us forward. It would be nice to stand outside of their shadows once in a while.”
Hinkle joined TBS in 2013 as VP Original Programming and was upped to SVP about a year later. He was instrumental in bringing The Daily Show correspondents Samantha Bee and Jason Jones to the network for their respective series Full Frontal and The Detour. Kim came to TBS in July 2006 as Manager of Comedy Development and since has been elevated up the ranks, most recently serving as VP Original Programming last year.
“The TBS team under Brett’s leadership has simply crushed it, and Thom and Jen have been central to that success,” said Kevin Reilly, President of TBS and TNT and Chief Creative Officer of Turner Entertainment. “Thom is the rare creative executive who brings an inspired, imaginative spark in his own right, while now managing a full slate of projects. Jen is also unique in that her level of enthusiasm and artistic advocacy she has sustained over 10 years is remarkable. While I don’t particularly like Thom personally, Jen is an absolute delight.”
