Sports Illustrated TV (SI TV) is set to collaborate with award-winning filmmaker and co-chair of Mandalay Sports Media, Mike Tollin, and Gary Cohen’s Triple Threat TV to produce the documentary, We Town. This will be the first original film for the newly launched streaming network.
“SI TV is a one-stop shop for any sports lover, and We Town is a terrific example of our commitment to bringing premium original programming to the service,” said Josh Oshinsky, VP of Programming for SI TV. “Delivering stories from unique perspectives is one of the hallmarks of the SI brand, and collaborating with some of the most creative producers of sports films today reinforces this path towards becoming an immediate high-end player in the sports documentary space.”
The film, which is slated for release in 2018, explores one of the most talented high school teams in modern history, featuring two likely NBA stars, Mo Bamba and Cam Reddish. These two rising stars chose to play at Westtown School — an elite academic school without a basketball tradition — because they are drawn to Coach Seth Berger. Berger is a charismatic and devoted leader who helps his players navigate “the bumpy path from boys to men.” As Berger guides his team towards the dream of back-to-back state titles, the coach and his athletes must stick together despite apathy from the stars, family tension between Berger and his son on the team, and the inevitable disruption from the parade of recruiters and opportunists hustling in the wake of the world-class talent.
Oshinksy and Ian Orefice of SI TV will serve as executive producers alongside Tollin and Cohen.
