Sony has set Ari Sandel to direct Goosebumps 2, but the studio still hasn’t decided which of two versions in development he will film. One of the versions has a new script by Rob Lieber, and both are adaptations of different installments of the fright anthology novel series by R. L. Stine. In any case, Goosebumps 2 has an Oscar winning director at the helm; Sandel won for Best Short Film in 2007 with West Bank Story. He most recently completed When We First Met, with Alexandra Daddario, Robbie Amel and Adam Devine, and his last film was The Duff.
The 2015 Goosebumps starred Jack Black and grossed $150.17 million worldwide for Sony. Black played the author, and his return will depend on which version ultimately gets used, because one of them doesn’t have his character as a featured player.
Neal H. Moritz is producing through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.
