In a synergistic campaign around the return of Will & Grace , NBC parent Comcast is making an original, behind-the-scenes companion series available on its X1 cable platform as well as its YouTube channel.
Inside Stage 22 with Max and David, an Xfinity Originals Series, is named after the studio where the sitcom is filmed. Creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan talk with cast members and also offer insights and background on the series and never-before-seen highlights from the set.
Seven episodes have been created to date. More are expected in January when Will & Grace returns from its holiday break. The show has been a solid ratings performer after returning in the fall after an 11-year absence from the airwaves with its original lead cast members intact.
Comcast has rolled out a range of tie-in initiatives, including enhanced viewer voting capability via X1 on NBC’s reality competition mainstay The Voice. Its Xfinity originals are also part of an investment by traditional distributors in original programming. Several operators have announced ramped-up content initiatives, including Charter as part of a carriage deal it struck with Viacom. Originals are seen as a way to limit churn or cord-cutting as consumers have an array of entertainment and pay-TV options beyond the traditional cable bundle.
