In the new trailer for NBC’s Rise, we get the first look at the music-infused drama from Friday Night Lights showrunner Jason Katims and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller. From the first footage, it looks like the series is a dramatic mash-up that combines the “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” heart & soul of FNL with the high school choral pageantry that aesthetically leans more Fame than Glee.
The new series stars Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), Rosie Perez (Search Party), and Auli’i Cravalho (Moana). Inspired by a true story, Radnor stars as dedicated teacher and family man Lou Mazzuchelli, who sheds his own self-doubt and takes over the school’s lackluster theater department and galvanizes not only the faculty and students but the entire working-class town.
The series will premiere on March 13 at 10 PM PST immediately following the season finale of This Is Us. Rise will then move to its regular 9 PM time slot the following Tuesday, March 20.
