EXCLUSIVE: Richard Cabral (American Crime) and John Gallagher Jr. (The Newsroom) have been cast in Peppermint, the Jennifer Garner starring action-thriller from Lakeshore Entertainment. Pierre Morel is at the helm, directing from a screenplay by Chad St. John. STXfilms is distributing.
The film follows Riley North (Garner) who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. When the system frustratingly shields the murderers from justice, Riley sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerilla. Channeling her frustration into personal motivation, she spends years in hiding honing her mind, body and spirit to become an unstoppable force – eluding the underworld, the LAPD and the FBI- as she methodically delivers her personal brand of justice.
Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing the project, which begins filming next month. Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin are exec producers.
Cabral will co-star in Kurt Sutter’s upcoming Mayans for FX, and has Breaking In starring Gabrielle Union and Windows On The World with Edward James Olmos and Ryan Guzman coming up. Gallagher Jr.’s upcoming slate includes 20th Century Fox’s aquatic action thriller Underwater with Kristen Stewart and Robin Bissell’s The Best Of Enemies with Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell.
Cabral is repped by Primary Wave Entertainment, while Gallagher Jr. is with Gersh.
