Grasshopper Film has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Did You Wonder Who Fired The Gun?, Travis Wilkerson’s documentary that played the Sundance and New York film festivals.
The film will open theatrically on February 28 at Film Forum in New York City, followed by a national rollout.
Did You Wonder Who Fired The Gun? chronicles a 1946 murder in Alabama, committed by the filmmaker’s great-grandfather S.E. Branch, who killed Bill Spann, a black man. The killing has become hidden family lore, and when Wilkerson sets out to unravel the mystery, he encounters obstacle upon obstacle, destroyed records and everyone refusing to talk. He’s accused of bringing shame upon the family, shaking up old trouble nobody wants.
