The country music-focused cable channel unveiled its winter slate today, including a March 1 premiere date for its new series Music City. The unscripted show about young acts chasing music-biz glory will bow at 10 PM Thursday, March 1.
Filmed in Nashville and unveiled in September, the eight-episode Music City hails from Adam DiVello, who created reality TV heavyweights The Hills and Laguna Beach. It follows a group of young emerging artists chasing their dreams of success in the music industry, while struggling to balance their personal lives and relationships. The series is produced by Done and Done Productions in association with Lionsgate.
Also announced today were shortform digital series How to Wear, Street Art Stories and The Downtown Farmer, which will be released weekly on CMT’s YouTube channel. Details of those shows — all produced by Whalerock Industries — and Episode 1 of How to Wear and Street Art Stories are below.
CMT also revealed the latest episode of its long-running musical-collaboration series. CMT Crossroads: Kesha and Old Crow Medicine Show, featuring the pop singer and veteran Americana string band performing songs from her current LP Rainbow along with OCMS chestnuts including “Wagon Wheel.” CMT Crossroads is produced by CMT’s Margaret Comeaux and Switched On Entertainment’s John Hamlin
The slate announcement comes on the heels of a strong year for CMT, including 51 consecutive weeks of year-over-year growth — the longest active growth streak among ad-supported cable nets. The channel CMT wrapped its fiscal 2017 in September up 12% among adults 18-49 and up 13% among women 18-49 from the prior year, per Nielsen, and earned its highest-rated year since 2014.
“After a record-setting year, we’re continuing to build upon CMT’s direction as an all-touchpoint brand to further command the country music and lifestyle space, not only on television but on every device,” said Frank Tanki, General Manager of CMT and TV Land. “Each of these series fluidly extend the brand into key categories like music, art, food and fashion, while staying true to our mission of embodying modern country culture.”
