With Halloween upon us the Screamfest Horror Film Festival couldn’t have picked a better time to tease us with the first wave of titles for their lineup. Now in its 17th year, America’s largest and longest running horror film festival will include the North American Premiere of Leatherface, a prequel to the late Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well as the world premiere of Dead Ant starring Tom Arnold and Sean Astin. The festival, which runs from October 10-19 at the TCL Chinese in Hollywood, has also named Lost alum Dominic Monaghan as this year’s Screamfest ambassador.
“I am extremely honored to serve as this year’s Screamfest ambassador,” said Monaghan. “I applaud Screamfest and its Founder and Festival Director Rachel Belofsky for embracing the work of filmmakers and actors in the horror genre. I’m a big fan of this space, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of a fest that truly acknowledges unique and creative work.”
The festival has served a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work to horror enthusiasts. It also put the horror hit Paranormal Activity in the spotlight and premiered notable titles including Let the Right One In, The Grudge, The Human Centipede and Diary of the Dead. Numerous horror filmmakers such as Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, Clive Barker, Eli Roth, James Wan, Zack Snyder, William Friedkin, John Landis and James Gunn have supported the festival year after year.
