Short-form programming isn’t just for internet-delivered media: Sinclair Broadcast Group announced this morning its plan to introduce an over-the-air multicast channel, to be called TBD, that will feature infotainment from companies including Jukin Media, Legendary Digital Networks (Nerdist & Geek and Sundry), Whistle Sports, Kinonation, Zoomin’ and Canvas Media Studios.
The effort is a collaboration with Dublin-based The QYou, which will license and package the material. TBD will launch early next year on Sinclair stations’ digital sub channels.
“Our recent focus has been on expanding our business with new digital multicast networks that leverage our broadcast spectrum and household reach,” Sinclair’s recently named CEO Chris Ripley says. “Much of the multicast market today focuses on classic TV and movie content, with little aimed at audiences for whom fresh and relevant pop culture content is important. With the launch of TBD, we aim to pair the very best premium digital-first content with the unmatched branding power of traditional television.”
The QYou CEO Scott Ehrlich says that TBD will show that it’s possible to reach millennials with “content they connect with in a way that’s easy to consume on the range of devices that make up their multiscreen world.”
