Hulu has hired the Lonely Island’s Party Over Here exec Billy Rosenberg as Director of Hulu Originals for comedy series. In his new role, Rosenberg will head up and oversee the development and production of Hulu’s current and upcoming slate of comedy series, reporting directly to Head of Originals Beatrice Springborn. He begins his new job in January.
Rosenberg most recently served as Head of Development & Production at the Lonely Island’s Party Over Here, which has a deal with 20th Century Fox TV Studios.
In his two years with the Lonely Island, Rosenberg produced a number of pilot presentations under their deal when it was with FBC including I’m Sorry, created by and starring Andrea Savage, which has been ordered to series at TruTV, and Freeform pilot Alone Together starring Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo. He also produced the feature Brigsby Bear written by and starring SNL’s Kyle Mooney, which will debut in January at the Sundance Film Festival in U.S. Dramatic Competition. Rosenberg also collaborated with writer-director Joe Swanberg and was a co-producer on his Netflix series Easy.
Prior to the Lonely Island, Rosenberg was with Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment where he developed and produced features including The Spectacular Now, Date Night, The Watch and the soon-to-be-released films Table 19 (Fox Searchlight) starring Anna Kendrick and Fist Fight (New Line) starring Ice Cube and Charlie Day.
