Less than three weeks before its scheduled launch, Dimension Films’ supernatural horror pic Amityville: The Awakening has been moved from winter to a plum midsummer release date. The 17th installment of the long-running franchise now will go wide on June 30 instead of January 6.
That’s a strong showing of support for Amityville: The Awakening, which now will compete against animated franchise juggernaut Despicable Me 3, likely to be a surefire hit for Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment. That is, if Despicable Me 2 — which made more than $900 million worldwide back in 2013 — is any indication.
Directed and co-written by Franck Khalfoun and produced by Jason Blum alongside co-writers Daniel Farrands, and Casey La Scala, Amityville: The Awakening stars Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Thomas Mann, Jennifer Morrison and Kurtwood Smith.
