FX and BBC One have confirmed air dates for Taboo, the high-profile period series that stars Tom Hardy and is created by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight with Hardy and his dad, Chips Hardy. The eight-part drama will debut on BBC One in the UK on January 7, followed by FX on January 10 at 10 PM Stateside. Ridley Scott, Tom Hardy and Knight are exec producers on the anticipated series that’s set in 1814.
Hardy plays James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice. And with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

Taboo reunites Hardy with his Locke director and screenwriter Knight, and his Child 44 producer Scott. Hardy has also appeared on two seasons of Knight’s hit BBC Two gangster series Peaky Blinders, turning up from time to time as Alfie Solomons.
The first four episodes of Taboo are directed by The Killing‘s Kristoffer Nyholm. Anders Engström helms the last four.
Knight created Taboo with Hardy and Chips Hardy, who is also the show’s consulting producer. Executive producers are Scott and Kate Crowe for Scott Free, Tom Hardy and Dean Baker for Hardy Son & Baker, and Knight, with Timothy Bricknell producing.
Taboo is produced by Scott Free and Hardy Son & Baker for FX and BBC One with Sonar Entertainment distributing worldwide outside the UK.
