Videofilia, Peru’s entry into this year’s Foreign Language Oscar race, has been acquired by Factory 25, which will bow it December 2 at Brooklyn’s Spectacle Theater before expanding theatrically in Los Angeles (December 7) and San Francisco (January 6). It will hit digital in March. Written and directed by Juan Daniel F. Molero, the pic — full title: Videofilia (And Other Viral Syndromes — centers on a teenage misfit spending her first days out of school slacking, experimenting with drugs and cyberspace. While online she meets Junior, an aspiring amateur porn dealer into conspiracy theories and convinced that the Mayan Apocalypse is happening. Once they meet in the “real world” a series of bizarre events unfold in a contemporary non-love story portraying postmodern Lima, Peru as a glitchy computer virus full of corruption, psychedelia and ancient ruins.

Bond/360 has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to The War Show, the documentary about the Syrian conflict told from the standpoint of former radio host Obaidah Zytoon and her friends. Andreas Dalsgaard and Zytoon directed the pic, which won the Venice Days Award this year. It details the harrowing crisis through the eyes of the group, which watched dreams of hope and liberation in the wake of the 2011 Arab Spring give way to the grim realities of repression, civil war and forced emigration. A 2018 theatrical release is planned, preceded by a festival and educational campaign to bring the film to college campuses. The deal was negotiated by Bond/360 COO Elizabeth Sheldon and Sanne Arlø of DR Sales.
FilmRise has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Michelle Sinclair’s debut documentary Chicago: The Terry Kath Experience, about Sinclair’s father — the guitarist/singer and founding member of Chicago who died tragically in the late-1970s at the height of the band’s success. The pic debuted at the Toronto Film Festival and just screened at DOC NYC.
