EXCLUSIVE: The folks behind Stan Lee’s Lucky Man today unveiled the first trailer for Season 2 of the series that’s been a hit for Sky 1 in the UK. The event took place at Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con this morning with Lee and exec producer Richard Fell of Carnival Films (also the makers of Downton Abbey and The Last Kingdom) in attendance. Check it out above.
The series was renewed for a second run last March after the first 10-part season became Sky 1’s highest-rated original drama ever. James Nesbitt stars as a brilliant but flawed cop struggling to control his compulsions and the never-ending battle between good and bad luck.
The action crime-drama is about fate, gambling, superstition and the consequences of our actions. Nesbitt will return in the second season as Detective Inspector Henry Clayton who’s given a charm that seems to confer upon the wearer the ability to control luck.
In Season 2, Nesbitt’s Clayton is still struggling to come to terms with his gambling addiction and still reluctantly wearing the lucky charm. With the help of his partner, DS Suri Chohan (Amara Karan), Clayton’s job is to solve particularly puzzling murder cases, but he refuses to use his new-found power to assist him. After a chance meeting with the enigmatic Isabella (Thekla Reuten — new to the series), everything he thought he knew about the bracelet is turned on its head.
The story is based on an original idea from Lee marked his first foray into British television. Today, he said, “The Lucky Man series is an action-packed, energetic and thrilling drama, it will have you captivated from the minute you watch it… Excelsior!” For the moment, it has not aired Stateside. NBCUniversal International Distribution has world sales.
Returning cast alongside Nesbitt and Karan includes Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Sienna Guillory (Fortitude), Steven Mackintosh (The Halcyon) and Darren Boyd (Fortitude).
Joining Season 2 along with Dutch actress Reuten are Conleth Hill (Game Of Thrones), Jonathan Aris (The Night Manager) and Matthew McNulty (The Musketeers)
Lee’s POW! Entertainment collaborates on the project. Lee and POW! Entertainment producing partner, Gill Champion, are co-executive producer of the series. Anne Mensah and Anna Ferguson exec produce for Sky. Fell and Gareth Neame are executive producers for Carnival Films.
