After what feels like far too long, this morning we finally got our first look at John Wick: Chapter 2. The sequel to the gloriously ultraviolent 2014 sleeper hit finds unflappable killing machine and ex-hitman Wick (Keanu Reeves), last seen avenging the cruel murder of his dog, forced out of retirement yet again when he’s called on by a former associate to help seize control of the secret guild governing the world’s contract killers. Wick heads to Rome, where he presumably murders… many people surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. Great premise, or the greatest premise? The first, wonderfully violent trailer debuted today during the film’s New York Comic-Con panel, and you can watch it above now.
My favorite bit? When John Wick is getting fitted for a new suit and, asked by the tailor what kind of cut he wants, says “tactical”. That, ladies and gentleman, is how you create sky-high expectations. Along with the trailer, an elegant new poster was also released into the wild earlier this morning. Check it out below.
Directed by Chad Stahelski from a script by Derek Kolstad, John Wick: Chapter 2 stars Reeves alongside Common, Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Ruby Rose, and Laurence Fishburne. It hits (sorry) theaters February 10.
