EXCLUSIVE: Acclaimed Indian director Kranti Kanadé’s latest film, CRD, will hit theaters in the U.S. November 4, and in advance of that, a trailer for U.S. audiences has landed, which you can watch exclusively here. Inspired by the real-life “Purushottam” event in Pune, India, the film follows a young dramatist who rebels against his fascist Tutor to form his own troupe of misfits, aiming to win a prestigious theatre competition and trying to find the hardest thing of all: his voice. As you can see in the trailer above, gorgeous visuals accompany scenes of intense conflict, lust, and despair in an examination of fascism and fierce artistic competition.
From Indian independent film distributor KanadéFilms, CRD is directed and produced by Kranti Kanadé and written by Kanadé and Dharmakirti Sumant. It stars Mrinmayee Godbole, Vinay Sharma, Saurabh Saraswat, Abhay Mahajan, and Isha Keskar. Daniel Katz, who shot the Oscar-winning short film Curfew, serves as director of photography with music by Emmy-award winner Garth Neustadter.
Kanadé has previously won the National Award, India’s highest film honor, and his next release is Gandhi Of The Month, starring Harvey Keitel. Sumant is a previous winner of the Yuva Sahitya Akademi Award, with CRD his debut feature.
