Amazon Studios has come aboard to co-finance Brad’s Status, the dramatic comedy written and directed by Mike White and starring Ben Stiller. Amazon also will distribute the pic theatrically in the U.S. and Canada, according to producer/co-financier Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Michael Sheen, Luke Wilson and Jenna Fischer also have joined Stiller and Austin Abrams in the film, which is in production.
Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales at the American Film Market, which kicks off Wednesday in Santa Monica. SKE, Plan B and and Dave Bernad are producing. UTA reps White and repped SKE on the Amazon deal.
The movie centers on Brad (Stiller), who despite a good career and happy family is obsessed with the better fortunes of his old friends from school. While escorting his son (Abrams) on an East Coast tour of colleges, Brad is forced to confront his friends and his feelings of failure — with hilarious and poignant results.
Sheen is repped by ICM Partners, Wilson by CAA and attorney Robert Wallerstein. Fischer is with WME, Odenkirk-Provissiero Entertainment and Sloane, Offer.
