In a preemptive buy, CBS has given a put pilot commitment to A Burglar’s Guide to the City, a drama from Scorpion executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Justin Lin and Heather Kadin and co-executive producer Paul Grellong. Lin, who directed the pilot for Scorpion, may also direct the action procedural project, based on the book by Geoff Manaugh. Scorpion producer CBS TV Studios, where Secret Hideout is based, is the studio.
Written by Grellong, A Burglar’s Guide to the City centers on a team of modern-day Robin Hoods, led by a brilliant architect with a troubled past. They use their unique skills to gain access to any stronghold in order to steal from rich criminals and give to those who have been wronged by a corrupt system.
Grellong executive produces with Secret Hideout’s Kurtzman and Kadin and Perfect Storm Entertainment’s Lin and Danielle Woodrow. Secret Hideout’s Aaron Baiers will also serve as a lead producer on the project. Manaugh will be a consulting producer, with Manage-ment’s Nate Miller and Dan Halsted from Manage-ment serving as producers.
This marks the third high-profile sale for Secret Hideout this season. The company has another put pilot commitment at CBS for a character-based procedural from writer Jenny Lumet and producers Katie Couric and David Marshall Grant. Additionally, Secret Hideout partnered with James Patterson and Michael Rauch for CBS drama Dr. Death, which has Alan Cumming attached to star. The company also produces the upcoming CBS All Access Star Trek series, which Kurtzman co-created with Bryan Fuller. Secret Hideout is repped by CAA and attorney Michael Gendler.
At CBS, Lin has a pilot production commitment for S.W.A.T., a drama inspired by the movie and original series, which he is producing with Shawn Ryan and Neal Moritz and may also direct. Additionally, his Perfect Storm Entertainment has thriller drama Blowback in the works at the CW with writer Hannah Shakespeare and a pilot order at Cinemax for Warrior, a crime drama based on original material written by Bruce Lee, which Lin is executive producing with an eye to direct. He is repped by CAA.
Grellong, whose series credits also include Revolution and Law & Order: SVU, is repped by CAA and the The Shuman Co.
Manaugh, repped by Manage-ment and Marc Van Arx, wrote an article for The Daily Beast about a thief hired by the U.S. Government to rob banks housing Al-Qaeda gold in Afghanistan, which has been optioned as a feature by Studio 8.
