British actor Max Bennett has been cast as a series regular opposite Laurie Davidson in Will, TNT’s upcoming drama series about the exploits of young William Shakespeare.
Will tells the wild story of young Shakespeare’s (Davidson) arrival onto the punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London – the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous sideshows. It’s described as a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s life, played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance.
Bennett will play Robert Southwell, Will’s cousin and the most wanted man in England. Father Robert Southwell’s words are more dangerous than the Spanish Armada. A messianic, charismatic leader bent on fomenting Catholic rebellion, Southwell tries to draw Will into his heady world of espionage and religious fundamentalism. Tied by bonds of duty, family and faith, Will struggles to reconcile his relationship with this seductively dangerous man.
Bennett recently appeared in BBC series The Hollow Crown and ITV’s hit series Endeavour. He also recently starred as Edmund opposite Frank Langella in the acclaimed stage production of King Lear in the UK and NY. He is repped by Independent Talent in the UK and Circle of Confusion.
