Trapped, the crime drama created by Everest helmer and Icelandic multihyphenate Baltasar Kormakur, has been given a second season order by Iceland’s national broadcaster RUV. The news comes as a busy Kormakur is fresh off the Toronto premiere of his feature thriller The Oath, and as he preps his first comedy TV series, The Mayor. From Kormakur’s RVK Studios, RUV and Dynamic Television, Trapped will make its Season 2 debut in fall 2018. (Check out a trailer for Season 1 below.)
Season 1’s 10-episode run broke records in Iceland for RUV, becoming the highest-rated series ever with an average 60% audience share. The Weinstein Co acquired U.S. rights to the series in Toronto last year. It has aired in the UK on BBC Four with over 1.2M viewers; on France 2, its first two episodes were seen by more than 5.7M; and in Norway, Trapped averaged over 500K viewers on NRK. Germany’s ZDF premieres it this fall.

Based on an original idea by Kormakur, Trapped tells the story of a troubled cop investigating a grisly murder when his small Icelandic town is hit by a powerful blizzard, trapping the villagers — and most likely the killer — in the town. Season 2 will follow the same lead characters as they examine an even more complex and challenging murder case.
Kormakur says, “This story is far from over. There is a lot more to come, both story-wise and also concerning our lead characters, I guess we all want to get to know them a little bit better”.
Trapped stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, True Detective), Bjarne Henriksen (Borgen, The Killing), Ingvar E Sigurðsson (Everest), Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir (Virgin Mountain), Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir (The Sea) and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Borgias, Fortitude).
Penned by Sigurjón Kjartansson and Clive Bradley, Trapped is produced by Kormakur and Magnus Vidar Sigurdsson. Exec producers are Dynamic’s Dan March and Klaus Zimmermann. Dynamic, which is producing the Syfy series Van Helsing, handles distribution.
