Odin’s Eye Entertainment and Shout! Factory have partnered for a multi-picture deal for a new animated film: Kikoriki: Legend of the Golden Dragon for exclusive North American distribution rights including theatrical, VOD, digital, broadcast and home entertainment. In addition, the agreement covers the same for the 2011 animated feature Kikoriki: Team Invincible. The company plans a distribution rollout for the new film across all platforms in 2017, and they hint that there will be another installment of the franchise in 2018.
Kikoriki: Legend of the Golden Dragon, which uses CG animation, follows the furry friends of Kikoriki island when a scientist invents a device that can transfer one personality into the body of another, and one character accidentally swaps bodies with a caterpillar.
Both titles are produced by RIKI Group and directed by Dennis Chernov, president of Kids & Family Entertainment at Shout! Factory. “We’re working on the next part of the Kikoriki franchise, which is expected to be released in 2018,” said Diana Yurinova, VP International Sales of RIKI Group.
The North American rights deal was negotiated between OEE’s CEO Michael Favelle and Shout’s VP Acquisitions Jordan Fields. Favelle and SVP International Distribution Martin Gallerywill be at TIFF representing the property.
