
Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden has been tapped to star Amazon’s upcoming sci-fi drama pilot based on Michel Faber’s cult hit book The Book of Strange New Things.

The project follows Peter (Madden), a priest, who is sent into space to help found a new colony but what he ends up discovering not only puts his faith to the test but life as we know it.
Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) is writing and Andy Harries (Strike Back) and Lila Rawlings (Left Bank Productions) are producing with Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland) directing. The hourlong pilot is an Amazon Studios and Left Bank Productions co-production.
Madden is best known for his role of Robb Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He just finished playing Romeo in Kenneth Branagh-directed Romeo and Juliet opposite Lily James, in London’s West End, and appeared earlier this year in feature James Watkins-helmed Bastille Day alongside Idris Elba. Last year, he starred as Prince Charming in Disney’s live-action adaption Cinderella, also directed by Branagh He’ll be seen later this year in Medici: Kingdom of Gold in the lead role of Cosimo de Medici opposite Dustin Hoffman. Madden is repped by WME and Troika.
