Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele were able to bring their dearly departed Comedy Central series Key & Peele with a bang tonight, as the show’s final season won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series tonight at the 68th Emmy Awards.
It was a great sendoff for the series, which had only picked up one previous Emmy, for Outstanding Makeup. “This is crazy,” Peele said accepting the award.” We have to thank Comedy Central for putting this on the air.” Key for his part ran down a long list of people to thank that included everyone in involved with the show, while Peele thanked “everybody for watching the show, for going home and sharing the show with their loved ones.”
On what the duo will miss most about their show, “The opportunity to make comedy for us is more than just laughter, it’s a way to reveal hypocrisy and injustice in this world” remarked Peele backstage. “There’s a big piece of our voice missing without Key and Peele but we are so honored that we get to share what we do with the world”.
Key & Peele ended its run in 2015 after the end of its 5th season. The duo released their first joint film production, the comedy Keanu, earlier this year.
