When I was in college, I spent a semester working at a hot dog shop located across the street from the football stadium. On game days, my job was to dress up in an enormous, bulky hot dog outfit and pass out coupons for the shop while drunken okies reminded me what the shape and length of the costume reminded them of. So believe me when I say I feel Christopher Guest’s new mockumentary Mascots on a deeply personal level. The latest from the Best in Show and Waiting For Guffman director his theaters and Netflix on October 13, and in advance of that you can watch the first full length trailer above.
Set in the ultra competitive world of sports mascots, Mascots tracks the people behind the costumes and suggestive in-game dancing as they vie for the highest honor in their field, the Gold Fluffy. It stars a lot of Guest’s regular troupe of actors alongside several new faces, including Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley, Jr., Christopher Moynihan, Don Lake, Brad Williams, Zach Woods, Chris O’Dowd, Matt Griesser, Susan Yeagley, Sarah Baker, Tom Bennett, Kerry Godliman, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Hitchcock, Maria Blasucci, John Michael Higgins, and Jim Piddock. Christopher Guest directs from a script he cowrote with Jim Piddock.
Mascots has its world premiere this Saturday at TIFF in advance of the day and date general release.
