‘The Matchbreaker,’ Starring Late ‘The Voice’ Singer Christina Grimmie, Set For October Release

Stadium Media has secured worldwide digital distribution rights to The Matchbreaker, an indie starring the late singer Christina Grimmie and newcomer Wesley Elder. The film bow in select theaters October 7, followed by a digital release in December.

Directed by Caleb Vetter, the film follows Ethan (Elder), an idealist romantic who reluctantly accepts the task of breaking up a girl’s relationship for her disapproving mother. Through word-of-mouth, the one-time gig turns him into a professional “match breaker.” As luck would have it, he winds up falling for one of his clients’ daughters and must balance his secret job and love life.

The Matchbreaker marks the film debut for Grimmie, a former The Voice contestant who was shot to death in June while signing autographs following her performance in Florida. The assailant subsequently was tackled by Grimmie’s brother before turning the gun on himself and was declared dead at the scene.

The film will feature original music by Grimmie and Tessa Violet.
