The Orchard has set an October 7 theatrical release for the romantic drama Blue Jay, the Duplass brothers-produced pic that will premiere at Toronto next month. First-time feature director Alex Lehmann’s film stars Mark Duplass — who wrote the screenplay — and Sarah Paulson as former high school sweethearts who return to their tiny California hometown and meet by chance, reflecting on their shared past through the lens of their differently dissatisfied presents.
The film will hit VOD on October 11.
“It’s an honor to be premiering another collaboration with Mark,” said Lehmann, who directed the Duplass-produced documentary Asperger’s Are Us. “His and Sarah’s performances are beyond captivating, drawing us not only into the story but deeper within ourselves.”

Said Paul Davidson, the Orchard’s EVP Film and Television: “We are thrilled to be continuing our relationship with Jay and Mark with such a moving and affecting drama. The performances from Mark and Sarah are amazing, and we are excited to share the film with audiences first in Toronto and then beyond.”
Mel Eslyn and Xan Aranda produced Blue Jay. The deal was negotiated with the Orchard by ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.
