Over the last five years James Cullen Bressack has built up one of the weirdest and strongest portfolios of pure exploitation of the sort that used to make random video store hunting so much fun. It’s crazy stuff spanning horror, criminal paranoia and whatever other disturbing ideas pop into his head and his latest, Limelight, is no exception. The surreal look at fame, vanity, and excess in the era of social media is due out later this year and the first trailer has made its way out into the world – watch it above now.
Billed as inspired by real events, Limelight follows an up-and-coming social media celebrity (played by co-writer Paul Vandervort), a small-town narcissistic small pond/big fish who moves to Los Angeles to pursue one goal: become famous. Offering up a jaundiced look at Hollywood, the film aims to examine how social media is changing “celebrity”, what current climbers have to go through, and the sleazy industry types who take advantage of while offering them they keys to the city. Broken friendships, betrayals, disappointed family and, let’s be honest, a pretty funny way to break up with someone, ensues. Also starring Brit Shaw, Sean Kanan, Jenna Jameson, and Jonathan Lipnicki, Limelight will have its Los Angeles premiere late in 2016 with worldwide distribution beginning early 2017. Directed by Bressack, Limelight is repped worldwide by Taylor & Dodge.
