EXCLUSIVE: Melissa McCarthy’s upcoming Life of the Party continues to beef up its cast with Silicon Valley’s Jimmy O. Yang and True Detective‘s Adria Arjona signing on for the college-set comedy that begins filming this week in Atlanta. Described as in the vein of Rodney Dangerfield’s 1986 comedy Back to School, Life of the Party stars McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Gillian Jacobs, Jacki Weaver, Molly Gordon and Jessie Ennis and hits theaters May 11, 2018. Yang will play Tyler, boyfriend to the daughter of McCarthy’s character who’s described as a normal college guy who likes to party. Arjona is set to play “a sorority sister with issues.” Ben Falcone directs Life of the Party from a script he co-wrote with McCarthy, with the duo producing alongside Chris Henchy. Arjona next will be seen starring in NBC’s Emerald City opposite Vincent D’Onofrio and MGM’s The Belko Experiment, written and produced by James Gunn and set to premiere at TIFF next month. Her credits also include HBO’s True Detective and Netflix’s Narcos. She’s repped by UTA and One Entertainment. Best known for his role on Silicon Valley, Yang next will be seen in the Peter Berg-directed Patriots Day, which recounts the events of the horrific Boston Marathon bombing. He’s repped by Don Buchwald & Associates and Principato Young.
Jeremy Renner is suiting up for colder climes and has signed on to voice the lead character in AMBI Group’s upcoming animated picture Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad. The environmentalism-themed story follows an arctic fox named Swifty (Renner) who longs to join a team of package-delivery huskies working for the Arctic Blast Delivery Service. After discovering a plot by evil genius Doc Walrus (John Cleese) to take over the world by accelerating global warming, Swifty assembles a ragtag group of unlikely heroes to stop him. The film co-stars Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, James Franco, Anjelica Huston, and Omar Sy. Dimos Vrysellas and Aaron Woodley are directing from a script by Bob Barlen and Cal Brunker. Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad is fully financed and produced by AMBI and its principals, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi, with AMBI Distribution handling worldwide distribution. Renner next will be seen in the sci-fi film The Arrival, and his production company, the Combine, is producing the Ray Kroc biopic The Founder starring Michael Keaton.
